A central register for prescribing methadone should be created immediately to combat the black market for the drug, according to the report of the Methadone Treatment Services Review Group.
Addicts prescribed methadone to keep them free of heroin should be issued with treatment cards, which would include their photographs, it says. These cards should be held by the pharmacists dispensing methadone.
