Maureen Haughey, widow of former taoiseach Charles Haughey, was last night recovering in hospital following an accident in Co Kerry.
Details of the accident remain sketchy but it is believed Mrs Haughey suffered a broken leg or a broken hip in a fall while holidaying in Kenmare.
It was unclear whether the accident happened while she was visiting her daughter, Eimear, who has a holiday house near Sneem.
Mrs Haughey was brought by ambulance to Cork University Hospital (CUH) over 80km (50 miles) away.
