Personal/family: Married for 25 years to the long suffering Iain. Three children, ages 22, 18 and 16.
What figure from the world of medicine or health do you most admire?
Dr Jack Newman from the Toronto Sick Children's Hospital. He is a no-nonsense breastfeeding exponent full of great common sense and good humour.
What other career might you have chosen?
Possibly medicine - but at the time I found chemistry impossibly difficult.
If you could grant three wishes for the health service, what would they be?
To stop re-inventing the wheel - utilise resources already developed by other areas. Proper support for voluntary groups which underpin health service provision. Creative thinking around maternity services - small family friendly units, not massive baby factories.
What is your greatest fear?
Something happening to any of my family.
Have you ever been a patient and were you a good one?
I have never been a patient except for two maternity visits and I didn't consider myself to be a patient on either visit.
When or where are you happiest?
In Dunmore East in August, deciding whether it is time to go fishing for dinner or walk up the village to have yet another cup of coffee in the Bay Café with my sisters.
How do you cope with stress?
I don't think I understand the question.
What is the trait you most admire in yourself?
The ability to multi-task.
What is the trait you most dislike in yourself?
When the control freak breaks loose.
Do you use alternative or complementary medicine or therapies?
Does hot port as a cure for the common cold count?
Who or what makes you laugh?
Jeremy Clarkson and Sarah Carey in the Sunday Times do the trick and Billy Connolly has been known to raise tears of mirth but shared moments of family fun are not to be under- estimated.
What is your motto?
Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.
What is your favourite TV or radio programme?
Favourite radio programme is Gerry Ryan in the morning and Jenny Houston on Friday evenings. For TV, any murder, mystery or mayhem will do.
What books would you bring to a desert island?
The SAS Survival Guide or Boat Building for Beginners and my husband's 30-year collection of Newsweek which I never have time to read.
