Kevin Kelly, the HSE's executive chairman, is a former managing director of AIB Bank, and has defended the bank's culture and staff.
"The perception of the culture of AIB that is prevailing at present is not the culture than I knew or that I know to exist now amongst its excellent staff. It's a company that I was proud to be part of and I still retain that pride."
Kelly was managing director from 1996-2001 with responsibility for AIB's retail and commercial business. He was group financial director from 1991.
Hugh Cawley, who heads the interim HSE's change management team, is a retired general manager in retail banking in AIB's Dublin region. Donal de Buitléir, a member of the HSE board, is general manager in the office of the AIB chief executive. A former assistant secretary in the Revenue Commissioners, he was a member of the Brennan Commission.
