Tennis:Tim Henman played to his strengths superbly as he upset the odds to beat British number one Andy Murray 6-4 6-2 at the Thailand Open in Bangkok.
He took the game to the 19-year-old Scot, who has soared to 16th in the world rankings, and his aggression paid dividends as he finally beat Murray at the fourth attempt.
The first set was nip and tuck and hinged on a thrilling 10th game which was edged by the 31-year-old and two early breaks in the second set made it comfortable for Henman.
He now takes on British number four Alex Bogdanovic in the second round.
This was the third meeting between the British top two this season and fourth overall, with Murray having won both encounters on the North American hard court circuit earlier this summer in Toronto and Cincinnati and the previous year's clash in Switzerland.
Murray had a first break opportunity when the umpire overruled the line judges and deemed a second Henman serve as out, but Murray's attempt at a lobbed winner on the next point was just long and the veteran ultimately held for 2-2.
The English player, now ranked 59 in the world, clearly saw the need to take the match to Murray and a searing forehand gave him two break points in the fifth game and he duly took the first of them before consolidating on his own serve to go 4-2 up.
Murray slipped from 40-15 on his own serve back to deuce and his first double fault could not have come at a worse time as it allowed Henman to secure a second break.
The Dunblane youngster showed resilience to break back and then hold to make it 5-4. The 10th game was a classic as Murray's dogged persistence and a series of unforced errors from Henman gave the Scot five break chances, before Murray was forced to scramble and save three set points. The senior man finally prevailed at the fourth time of asking.
The second set started perfectly for Henman as he broke Murray in the first game with a sublime sliced backhand.
Murray looked to be heading out at the first hurdle this time around as a double fault handed Henman another break, who moved 3-0 up.
The match then progressed with serve and an ace set up match point for Henman, and some more dominant net play sealed it.
