Emile Heskey boosted his chances of being part of the England starting line-up for the Euro qualifier with Slovakia next month with the winning goal against South African in Durban.

Heskey, who had lost his place to the now-injured Wayne Rooney in the vital victory over Turkey, managed his fifth goal for his country mid-way through the second period.

Gareth Southgate had put England ahead after only 36 seconds but the home side fully deserved their equaliser through a Benni McCarthy penalty and matched Sven-Goran Eriksson's side for long periods.
