World No. 1 Martina Hingis advanced to the US Open semi-finals today with a 6-2, 6-0 rout of Czech teen Daja Bedanova, taking the final 10 games to win in only 42 minutes.
The Swiss top seed will face the winner of a late match between American rivals Serena Williams, the 10th seed, and Lindsay Davenport, the third seed, for a berth in Saturday's final.
Bedanova, who ended the match with two double faults, lost all six of her break points. Bedanova's 22 unforced errors matched the total number of points she was able to take off Hingis.
"She has a great future," Hingis said. "I'm sure we're going to see a lot more of her. I know her very well. She spent some days in my home. We practiced. (I'm her) tutor. She still has to have some respect for me."
Hingis won the first 11 points and Bedanova won 10 of the next 11 as they reached 2-2 before Hingis took control. -AFP
