A new poster campaign urging pregnant mothers to quit smoking has been unveiled today at the National Maternity Hospital, Holles Street.
The two posters feature newborn babies wearing colourful t-shirts with the slogan "Smoke Free Baby".
Smoking while preganant can have implications for the child, including lighter birth weights. It can also damage the placenta, which can reduce the level of oxygen and nutrients passing to the baby.
However, within an hour of giving up, the risk of complications during the pregnancy reduce, and after a day carbon monoxide is removed from the body.
