Just under a thousand people took part in an anti-war demonstration at Shannon Airport today.

A number of Dáil deputies as well as members of the Socialist Workers Party took part in the protest.

Chairman of the Irish Anti-Mar Movement Mr Richard Boyd Barrett said it was important to keep up the pressure on the Government about its complicity in what he described as the illegal war in Iraq.

Labour Party TD for Limerick Ms Jan O'Sullivan said today's march was very important to highlight the need for a central role for the UN in the rebuilding of post-war Iraq.

The demonstration appears to have passed-off peacefully.
