Consumers are being asked to check the use-by dates on these products if they purchased them from retailers between Friday, January 5th and Wednesday, 10th January, 2007.

Jeffrey Moon, chief specialist in environmental health at the FSAI, said the products should not be consumed.

"These products are ready-to-eat, so the risk posed is that the salmonella would not be destroyed before consumption. Any consumer who has a bag of the affected product is advised to dispose of it or return it to the store where it was purchased.

"Consumers who may have already consumed these products and are feeling unwell should seek medical advice."

The affected batches are: Florette watercress 75g bag, use by 10/01/07, 12/01/07 and 13/01/07; and Florette spinach, watercress and rocket 130g bag, use by 12/01/07 and 13/01/07.
