Search for missing Lithuanian

Gardaí in Cork have broadened their search for a missing Lithuanian man to woodland on the outskirts of the city and an area used to store buses as fears continue for the man's safety.

Raimundas Berzinskas (33) has been missing from his home at St Finbarr's Place, Proby's Quay, Cork since December 15th. He is in breach of bail conditions imposed after he was charged with the manslaughter of fellow Lithuanian Gintaras Balcionas (38) on the Lower Glanmire Road in the city in October 2005.

Specialist sniffer dogs are being used in the search. Officers have spent the last few days combing around 20 acres of land east of Glanmire, Co Cork.

Thirty gardaí are now involved in the search.

Raimundas Berzinskas, a carpenter, is 6ft 2in, of strong build and with fair, close shaved hair.

When last seen he was wearing a dark green waist-length jacket, black trousers, black shoes and a back hooded top with grey print.

Gardaí do not believe that Mr Berzinskas's disappearance is linked in any way to the death of Mr Gintaras. However, they cannot rule out foul play.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the gardaí at Anglesea Street station (telephone: 021 4522000) or their local Garda station.
