Rapist gets further term of four years

A west Dublin alcoholic, who is serving a sentence for the rape and sexual assault of his then partner's daughter, has received a further four-year sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court for the sexual assault of her older sister.

The 41-year-old man, who cannot be named to protect the then six to 10-year-old victim's identity, pleaded guilty to two sample counts of sexual assault of the girl between 1997 and 1999.

He is already serving an eight-year sentence for the rape and sexual assault of the victim's younger sister from 1997 to 2001 while she was aged between five and nine years old.

Judge Katherine Delahunt imposed two four-year sentences to run concurrently and with the rape sentence and ordered that his name be placed on the sex offenders register.

Man sexually assaulted niece

A Waterford man has been remanded for sentencing later at the Central Criminal Court for sexually assaulting his niece over a number of years.

The 40-year-old pleaded guilty to anal rape between April 1994 and April 1995 at an address in Waterford.

He also admitted seven sample charges of indecent and sexual assault on her from 1990 to 1996 in Waterford. She was aged from seven to 14 years when the offences happened. There were 27 sexual assault counts on the indictment.

Mr Justice Paul Carney declared him a sex offender and directed the preparation of a victim impact report for the sentencing hearing.

Jury to hear rape trial sworn in

A jury has been sworn in at the Central Criminal Court for the trial of a Wexford teenager accused of raping a schoolgirl.

The 18-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to four charges of raping and sexually assaulting a then 14-year-old girl on July 18th, 2004, in a Co Wicklow town.

Rape trial in closing stages

The closing stages have been reached in the trial of a Lithuanian national charged with raping an eastern European woman in a Cork house two years ago.

The 35-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to raping her on January 16th, 2005, and claims they had consensual sexual intercourse following a party in the house.

Man charged with importing cocaine

A South African national has been charged with importing cocaine with an estimated street value of €108,000. Stevern Gouws was arrested by Customs officers, who found 1.5kg of the drug under a false bottom of a suitcase, after a flight from Zurich while en route to Nairobi.

Mr Gouws was remanded to Cloverhill Prison to appear again on Thursday.

Trial date set for former boxer

Former world boxing champion Steve Collins has had a trial date set at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court in relation to an alleged assault at the National Boxing Stadium last year.

Mr Collins (42), St Albans, Hertfordshire, is charged with assaulting Adrialik Voda causing him harm at the National Boxing Stadium in Dublin on June 3rd, 2006.

Judge Katherine Delahunt remanded him on continuing bail.
