Dennis Hopper to divorce as he fights cancer

LOS ANGELES – Bed-ridden Hollywood actor Dennis Hopper said yesterday he was seeking a divorce from his fifth wife while fighting prostate cancer.

“They’ve been having trouble and he wants peace and quiet,” his spokesman, Alex Hitz, said.

The unusual filing was made last Thursday. Hopper (73) and Victoria Duffy have a six-year-old daughter.

In a statement, Hopper was quoted as saying: “I wish Victoria the best, but only want to spend these difficult days surrounded by my children and close friends.”

The divorce filing would not affect what Duffy gets from Hopper’s estate as that was laid out in a prenuptial agreement, he added.

Hopper is best known for directing and starring in Easy Rider (1969). – (Reuters)

MADRID – Spain’s high court yesterday ordered the extradition of a Dutch- Argentine pilot to Argentina to face charges of throwing political prisoners out of aircraft into the sea under the military dictatorship 30 years ago.

Julio Alberto Poch (57) was arrested in Spain last year after an Argentine judge gave evidence that he had boasted about hurling drugged left-wing prisoners into the river Plate or the Atlantic Ocean. – (Reuters)
