Boy (6) dies after being hit by a van in south Dublin

Child was struck by the vehicle at the Hazelwood Estate in Shankill on Friday

A six-year-old boy has died after he was hit by a van in south Co Dublin on Friday evening.

The child was struck by the vehicle, which was travelling towards Shankill village, at the Hazelwood Estate at about 4.45pm.

The boy was taken to Temple Street hospital following the incident.

He has since died, a Garda spokeswoman confirmed on Sunday.

She said the boy’s family had asked that gardaí do not release his name.

Gardaí have interviewed the driver of the van.

They have asked anyone who was in the area at the time or who has any information about the incident to contact them at Shankill Garda station.
