A British registered fishing vessel was detained by the Naval Service yesterday due to an alleged breach of fishing regulations.

The detention by the LE Aoife was carried out about 90 nautical miles south west of Mizen Head, Co Cork.

The vessel was to be escorted to Castletownbere and handed over to the Garda early today.

This brings to 730 the total number of vessels boarded by the Naval Service in 2013.
