Gardaí initially thought dead man had fallen down stairs

Gardaí investigating the death of a man in Co Donegal initially thought he had died after falling down stairs.

The man, a 36-year-old Polish national, was found with serious injuries on Wednesday afternoon last at an address at Sylvan Park, Letterkenny.

He was taken by ambulance to Letterkenny University Hospital at 4.49pm and died on Thursday.

The single man has been named locally as Sebastian Adamowicz. He has lived in Letterkenny for a number of years.

A postmortem was carried out by State Pathologist Professor Marie Cassidy and the investigation has been upgraded to murder.

It is understood the man had been socialising with other people at the house throughout the day. It is believed a row broke out and he was assaulted.

Det Insp Pat O'Donnell, Letterkenny, appealed to anyone who may have information or who visited Sylvan Park between 8am and 6pm on Wednesday to contact the incident room at Letterkenny Garda Station on 074 91 67100 or any Garda Station.
