Family had lucky escape after shots fired through bedroom window

A family escaped injury when shots were fired at their house in Cork city in the early hours of this morning.

The incident happened at about 1.20am when a gunman fired two shots through an upstairs bedroom window at a house at Meadow Walk in Hollyhill on the city's northside.

A couple in their early 30s and their three children, all of whom are all aged under seven, were in the house at the time and were uninjured but were said to be shocked by the attack.

Gardaí have established that a silver coloured car was seen leaving the area at the time and have appealed to anyone who may have witnessed the gun attack to contact them.

Garda technical experts have just completed a forensic examination of the scene and gardaí have confirmed that they are satisfied that a handgun was used in the attack

Supt Con Cadogan of Gurranebraher Garda Station said gardai are still trying to establish a motive for the attack and appealed to anyone with information to contact them on 021-4946200.
