A hill walker has been rescued from Ireland's highest mountain in the third call out for the Kerry Mountain Rescue team to Carrauntoohil in recent days.

The man was brought to Kerry General Hospital by the Shannon Rescue helicopter yesterday after sustaining head injuries while walking with a group.

It is understood his injuries are not life threatening.

Last Wednesday, the team were called to the discovery of the body of local vet Timothy (Teddy) Clifford, of Annadale Road, Killorglin. He who took ill while walking on the ridge between Carrauntoohil and Caher Mountains and was discovered in an unresponsive state by another hill walker.

A keen hillwalker, Mr Clifford was in his 50s and his death has shocked the community.

Other call outs in recent days have been to the Devil’s Ladder, where two tourists, one of whom was injured, were rescued.

Earlier this month, two male walkers were rescued after they got lost descending Carrauntoohil.

Fine weather as well as good walking conditions have led to high numbers of walkers on the Kerry mountains.
