The Department of Foreign Affairs is assisting the family of an Irish man who has died in Namibia.

Ray Prendiville, a former inter-county footballer with Kerry, is understood to have been shot last night.

Mr Prendiville, who was in his 60s, previously worked as a garda and was involved in the security business in Namibia.

He won a Munster football championship with Kerry in 1975, marking his only senior championship appearance with a goal in a victory against Tipperary.
