Irish Water has said it hopes to restore water “as quickly as possible” to homes and businesses in the Drogheda area, following a rupture to a major water main in the area.
The utility said it had “reconfigured its network” to minimise disruption to supple and was working with Louth County Council to minimise disruption to premises in the area.
The areas affected include the Ballsgrove Estate, Donore Industrial Estate, Trinity Street, Patrick Street, Lourdes, Drogheda Town North, Cord Road, Cross Lane, Ballymakenny Road, Sandyford, North Quay, Termonfeckin, Clogherhead, Termonabbey, Newfoundwell Road, Ballymakenny Road and surrounding areas.
The water supply to hospitals in the area has been prioritised and the repair is expected to be completed Monday evening.
Donal Heaney, asset operations lead of wastewater at Irish Water, said the utility understood “the inconvenience unplanned outages can have on customers and we appreciate your patience as we work to return the water supply to homes and businesses as quickly as possible”.
He said vulnerable customers who have registered with Irish Water receive direct communications regarding planned and unplanned outages lasting more than four hours.
