A number of large bonfires were extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade on Halloween night, but overall there was a drop in callouts compared to last year.

A car was driven into a bonfire in the Liffey Valley area of Dublin on Sunday night, and the blaze was extinguished shortly afterwards.

A large bonfire was lit on a green in the Cashel Avenue area of Crumlin, which was also extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade after it was reported to gardaí around 8:20pm. No injuries were recorded.

Earlier in the night, the fire brigade intervened in bonfires in Sandyford and Rathfarnham in Dublin. The Rathfarnham bonfire had spread to nearby trees.

Killiney firefighters also intervened during an incident where petrol was being thrown onto a bonfire, and in Clondalkin, firefighters found gas cylinders in a bonfire.

Smoke from a bonfire near Leopardstown reduced visibility on the M50 last night, so it was also extinguished by the fire brigade.

The Dublin Fire Brigade said that the majority of their Halloween fire calls had been cleared by around 1:20am.

Last night, they reported that Halloween passed off relatively peacefully when compared to other years.

However, the night was still described as “busy”.

As of 8pm on Sunday, the fire brigade reported a 60 per cent drop in callouts when compared to last year. However, ambulance call outs were up, and one serious fireworks injury was recorded in Dublin.
