A 26-year-old tax trainee has reportedly become the youngest Irish person to reach the summit of Mount Everest.
Rob Mortell, from Limerick, reached the peak of the world's highest mountain at 6am on Monday, according to a statement on the Facebook page for his expedition.
The KPMG trainee started his ascent in April. He is currently descending the mountain.
Rob had already scaled the Matterhorn in the Alps in 2013, Denali in the US in 2014 and Ama Dablam in Nepal in October 2015.
Previous record-holder
The previous youngest Irish person to reach the summit was Mark Quinn, from Limerick, who reached the top at the age of 27 in May 2011.
Jordan Romero from the US holds the record for the youngest person to reach the mountain's summit, which he did at the age of 13 in 2010.
The first successful Irish ascent was by Dawson Stelfox on May 27th, 1993.
