A 64-year-old male pedestrian was killed on Monday night when he was struck by a car on the N80 at Dysart, Portlaoise.
The incident happened at 8.30pm.
The man was treated at the scene by emergency services personnel and removed to Portlaoise General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was uninjured.
A stretch of the N80 between Stradbally and Bloomfield is currently closed to traffic and local diversions are in place. Garda forensic collision investigators will examine the scene on Tuesday morning. The Coroner has been notified.
