A man in his 80s has died after getting into difficulty in the water off a south county Dublin beach on Sunday morning.
Multiple units of the emergency services were called to attend the incident at Killiney beach after fellow swimmers and beachgoers reported that the man had become unwell.
Gardaí, the ambulance service and a coastguard helicopter were quickly on the scene and after he was taken from the water he received urgent medical care close to the sea front.
He was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in an ambulance, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
