Health and Safety Authority, gardaí open investigations after victim is fatally struck by loader

The Health and Safety Authority and gardaí have opened investigations into the death of a man at a sawmill in west Cork early this morning.

The man in his 50s, from west Cork, suffered fatal injuries when he was struck by an industrial loader at Graingers Sawmills in Enniskeane at around 8.30am.

Emergency services were notified, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Cork University Hospital for a postmortem.

Gardaí have begun an technical examination and have seized the loader for examination by a Garda PSV inspector.

Officers have also removed CCTV footage from the sawmills and have spoken to staff working at the time.

HSA inspectors have visited the scene, which is close to the centre of Enniskeane village.
