A man has been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of fitness instructor John Gibson at a shopping centre in Dublin in 2017.
Mr Gibson (28), a father-of-two, was shot dead outside Eddie Rocket’s restaurant at the side of the CityWest Shopping Centre in Dublin on September 18th of that year.
On Saturday morning gardaí arrested a man and brought him to Tallaght Garda station where he is being questioned under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
Gardaí believe Mr Gibson was killed because of his involvement in a feud in Clondalkin, Co Dublin, which began in August 2013 with the fatal shooting of Dean Johnson (21) who was killed in a case of mistaken identity.
The intended target had been a drug dealer who has since been jailed. Mr Gibson was an associate of the jailed drug dealer.
The latest shooting in the feud occurred last month when a man was shot seriously injured in Briarswood, Dublin 15.
Gardaí believe the victim was the gunman’s intended target and that he had been under surveilance before being singled out in what appeared to be a well- planned ambush.
This brings the total number of arrests to date over the incident to four.
