A man is in critical condition in hospital after being struck by a car in Tullamore, Co Offaly this morning.
The 21-year-old man was taken to the Midland Regional Hospital at Tullamore but later transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.
A car remains at the scene of the incident, which occurred at around 4am on Church Road in Tullamore.
Gardaí are appealing for information and have closed off a section of Church Road where an examination of the scene is taking place.
They are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or was in the vicinity of Church Street/Church Road between 3am and 4am to contact Tullamore Garda station on 057-9327600.
