Michael Bugler: Search for missing student to continue

Break in bad weather to help efforts to locate Clare law student last seen a fortnight ago

Gardaí in Galway intend to take advantage of a break in the bad weather to make a concerted search on Saturday for missing student Michael Bugler.

Mr Bugler (20), a law student at NUI Galway (NUIG) from Co Clare, was last seen a fortnight ago.

The Irish Coast Guard, RNLI lifeboat crews and Civil Defence will participate in Saturday’s search from noon at various points around Galway Bay.

Insp Kevin Gately, who will be co-ordinating the search, said he expected there would be a large turnout, and paid tribute to the hundreds of volunteers who have assisted in the search over the past two weeks.

Mr Bugler is described as 5’9” in height, of thin build with short brown hair and blue eyes.

Blue jumper

When last seen - shortly before 1am near the Claddagh on December 18th - he was wearing a blue jumper and jeans. He is believed to have been on his way home to Fairhill road.

Meeting points for Saturdays’s search are at Calasanctius College, Oranmore and at an Tra Mor, Indreabhan, from noon. Waterproofs, boots and walking stick are recommended for volunteers.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who has any information on his whereabouts to contact them at Galway Garda station on telephone ( 091) 538000, the Garda confidential line at 1800 666111 or any Garda station.
