One of Ireland's oldest citizens, Molly Loughman, who voted in last month's general election just three days after her 103rd birthday, has died.

Mrs Loughman, who was originally from Killydrum, Co Monaghan was in care at St Mary's Hospital in Castleblayney when she took suddenly ill and passed away yesterday.

The late Mrs Loughman, who was predeceased by her husband James in 1955, was in good spirits up until her death, and was able to move around the hospital with the assistance of a wheelchair.

Speaking as she cast her vote, just three days after celebrating her birthday, she put her long years down down to eating “plenty of good home-baked bread” and making sure that “ you have lots of craic”.
