An 82-year-old man was killed after he was hit by a car in Co Cork last night.

The man was walking in Kilcrohane when the incident happened at about 8.05pm.

He was taken to Cork University Hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly before midnight.

The road is closed this morning to facilitate a Garda forensic examination and local diversions are in place.
