A power surge caused fires to break out in four homes in south Dublin last night.
Six units of Dublin Fire Brigade were called to an estate in Oliver Plunkett Avenue in Monkstown.
Fire crews were called after two households reported fires in their hot press and kitchens respectively at about 6.30pm yesterday evening.
When the units arrived, two other houses reported fires in their circuit boards.
A fire brigade spokesman said they did not believe the power surge was related to the bad weather of recent days as conditions were fairly calm yesterday evening in Dublin.
He said the service was very stretched at the time as four appliances were at a fire in an industrial warehouse nearly.
As a consequence, appliances were drafted in from Dolphins Barn, North Strand, Tallaght and Pearse Street to assist local fire-fighters in Dún Laoghaire.
