Rail passengers delayed for hours after Cork train breaks down

Services out of Heuston delayed on bank holiday weekend

Rail passengers experienced severe delays today after a Cork-bound train broke down in Kildare.

The 1pm service from Heuston to Cork failed at Kildare leaving thousands of passengers stranded both on trains and in stations waiting to depart. Delays of more than two hours were reported.

The August Bank Holiday weekend is one of the busiest weekends for travel over the summer.

The rail company reported at 4.20pm from its Twitter account that services were moving again out of Heuston but warned of delays of up to two hours.

Many passengers took to Twitter to complain about the delays. The Irish Rail Twitter account apologised to them and posted a link to a page with details on how to claim a refund for tickets.
