A 6-year-old boy who was found "significantly injured" on a road in Derry on Tuesday morning has died.

Donnacadh Maguire was found in Tyrconnell Street in the Bogside area of the city shortly before 10.30am.

He was taken to hospital, but died later.

A police investigation has been launched, and a man has been arrested.

Inspector O'Brien from the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) said it was "possible that the boy's injuries were sustained as the result of a collision with a vehicle".

“We are working to establish exactly what happened and we are keen to speak to witnesses.

“I would ask anyone who was on Tyrconnell Street this morning between 10am and 10.30am to please get in touch.”

Tyrconnell Street remains closed.
