Teenager arrested for questioning over Dungarvan stabbing

Victim in his 30s in critical but stable condition following emergency surgery

Gardaí in Co Waterford are investigating a stabbing in the early hours of this morning which resulted in a man in his 30s being rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

The victim was stabbed during a row between two men on Keating Street off O'Connell Street in the centre of Dungarvan town at about 3am.

The man was rushed by ambulance to University Hospital Waterford in Ardkeen where he underwent emergency surgery. His condition is described as critical but stable.

Gardaí arrested an 18-year-old man in Dungarvan a short time later under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows suspects to be detained for a period of 24 hours.

The teenager, who is from the Dungarvan area, was taken to Dungarvan Garda station, where detectives are continuing to question him this evening about the stabbing.
