Two men in their 60s killed in separate crashes in Cork and Kerry

A 62-year-old man has died following a single vehicle crash in Skibbereen, Co Cork.

The man, who was from the Skibbereen area, was the sole occupant of a car when it collided with a wall at Drishanebeg on the Skibbereen to Tragumna road at about 1.30pm on Tuesday.

The emergency services were alerted and HSE paramedics, fire brigade personnel and a local doctor attended at the scene of the collision, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was removed to Cork University Hospital where a postmortem will take place. No other injuries were reported.

Garda forensic collision investigators attended the scene to conduct a technical examination.

They have issued an appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the crash to make contact. Road users travelling through the area at the time and who have dash-cam footage are also asked to make this available.

Meanwhile a man in his 60s was killed when the motorcycle he was driving was involved in a single vehicle collision at Springfield, Ballyvelly in Tralee town in Co Kerry shortly after 4pm on Tuesday.

Gardaí and the medical emergency services were alerted but the man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was later removed for a postmmortem examination at University Hospital Kerry.

The road was closed and diversions were put in place to allow Garda Forensic Collision Investigators carry out an examination of the scene of the collision which is at the western side of the town.

Gardaí in Tralee have appealed for witnesses to come forward and to those with camera footage including dash-cam to make it available to them and they can be contacted on 066-7102300.
