Two men killed in separate car crashes just 12 hours apart

19-year-old killed in Wicklow crash while a man in his 60s died in crash in Sligo

Gardaí in Wicklow and Sligo are investigating single vehicle crashes in which two men have lost their lives.

A 19-year-old man died when the car he was a front-seat passenger in struck a ditch at the village of Shelton, near Arklow, Co Wicklow, on Monday night at about 9.30pm.

Gardaí investigating the incident closed the Vale Road between Arklow and Woodenbridge.

Neither the deceased nor the injured driver of the vehicle (18) have been named pending notification of family members.

A man in his 60s also died on Tuesday morning in a collision which occurred at Doomore, Cloonacool, Co Sligo.

Gardaí said the man’s car struck a wall at a bridge at Doomore, Cloonacool at around 9.45am. His body was removed to the mortuary at Sligo University Hospital where a post-mortem is due to take place.

A technical and forensic examination of the scene is underway, the road is closed to traffic and diversions are in place.
