A man and a woman were seriously injured in a road traffic collision between a car and a truck in Swinford, Co Mayo on the main N5 road.
The accident occurred between Charlestown and Swinford at about 12.25am on Wednesday.
Two occupants of the car were seriously injured. A male passenger in his 70s was taken to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar where his condition is described as critical.
A female passenger in her 50s was transferred to Beaumont Hospital in Dublin where her condition is described as serious. The driver of the car is receiving treatment in Mayo University Hospital for serious injuries but they are not said to be life-threatening.

The N5 road has been closed between Swinford and Charlestown and diversions are in place. Investigations are ongoing with the services of Garda Forensic Collision Investigators requested.
Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the accident to come forward. Anyone who was travelling between Charlestown and Swinford last night between midnight and 1am, and who may have dash-cam footage, has been asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.
