There is likely to be widespread disruption to early morning traffic following a burst major water main in Dublin.

Irish Water engineers were working through the night to repair the 24 inch water main located at the junction of Drumcondra Road and Clonliffe Road.

It is likely that there will be severe traffic restrictions in the morning peak both inbound and outbound at this junction.

Dublin City Council’s Traffic Management Centre warned that lane closures and a stop/go system will be in place for most of the morning.

Motorists are encouraged to avoid the Swords Road, Drumcondra Road and Dorset Street areas of the city if possible.

It is likely to be midday at the earliest before the leak is repaired.
