A woman in her 50s died on Saturday afternoon after she and two friends got into difficulty swimming in the sea off the coast of Co Wicklow.
The tragedy occurred at around 12:30pm when gardaí and emergency services rushed to the North Beach in Greystones after receiving reports that three swimmers were in trouble.
The three women, all in their 50s, were taken from the water.
One of the women was pronounced dead at the scene after which her body was taken to the mortuary at Loughlinstown where a postmortem will take place at a later date.

A second woman was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital to be treated for her injuries while a third was treated at the scene by emergency services.
