Woman dies in four-car collision in Co Carlow

Two of the drivers are taken to hospital after the crash in Tullow

A 61-year-old woman has died after a four-car crash in Co Carlow on Friday.

The crash took place at Knockloe in Tullow, on the Tullow to Shilleagh road (R725) at about 6.10pm .

The woman, who was a passenger in one of the four cars involved, was seriously injured and pronounced dead at the scene.

She was taken to Waterford Regional Hospital where a post mortem is due to be carried out on Saturday.

The 71-year-old man driving the car was also injured and taken to St Luke's General Hospital in Kilkenny for treatment.

The male driver (45), of the second car was also taken to St Luke’s hospital.

The drivers of the other two cars involved, a man (29) and a woman (28), were not injured and were not carrying any passengers.

The road was closed for technical examination and has since been re-opened.

Gardaí in Baltinglass are investigating the collision and have asked any witnesses to contact Baltinglass Garda Station on 059 6482610, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111 or any other Garda station.
