Garda also treated for minor injuries, GSOC now investigating collision on N22

A woman was seriously injured following a two-car collision involving a Garda van in Co Kerry on Monday evening.

The crash happened on the N22 Killarney to Tralee road about 11km outside Killarney at 7.45pm.

A woman in her 30s, who was the driver and sole occupant of one of the vehicles, was taken to Kerry General Hospital with injuries described as serious, according to Gardaí.

The driver of the second vehicle, an official Garda van, was also brought to Kerry General with non-serious injuries.

The road remains open but diversions are in place at the site of the collision at Scart Cross, according to AA Roadwatch.

The crash has been referred to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission (GSOC), which is now conducting an investigation.
