Racing: Irish-born jockey John Egan has been remanded in custody in England after appearing before magistrates to face three charges.

Egan pleaded guilty to possession of an unlicensed shotgun, harassment, and being drunk in possession of a vehicle when he appeared before magistrates in Bury St Edmunds, England.

He was remanded in custody for sentencing at Ipswich Crown Court at a date yet to be fixed, a court spokeswoman said.

A Suffolk Police spokesman said that Egan, of Ashfield Green, near Wickhambrook, Suffolk, was arrested last Friday and appeared in court the following day.

Egan enjoyed two Group One wins last season after forging a good partnership with trainer Tim Pitt.

The pair claimed the Golden Jubilee Stakes and the July Cup with Les Arcs as well as taking the Chester Cup with Admiral.

Egan was also successful aboard Jane Chapple-Hyam's 100-1 outsider in the totesport Ebor at York in August.  PA
