An Irishman, Mr Kieran Fitzgerald (45), yesterday swam across the Mediterranean from Spain to Morocco in just over seven hours but failed to meet his time target, according to officials in Tangiers, Morocco. Mr Fitzgerald left Tarifa, on Spain's southern coast, at 5.30 a.m. and arrived at Punta Ceres, 45 miles east of Tangiers, at 12.30 p.m. He had hoped to complete the 9.5-mile crossing in under six hours but hit choppy waters halfway across the Strait of Gibraltar. - (AFP)
