The Independent Radio and Television Commission (IRTC) has announced it will be inviting applications for two new radio services in the Dublin area.

One of the stations will be a special interest music service on the FM band while the other will be a religious station on medium wave.

Advertisements for the licences will appear in national newspapers shortly, with January 1st, 2001, the closing date. Oral hearings will follow and it is expected a decision will be made by next March.

The religious station will cater to Christian and non-Christian listeners, while the music service is for either country/country music and Irish, classic rock, alternative rock, jazz/rhythm and blues/ soul, or Irish music genres.

A guide to submissions is available from the IRTC at Marine House, Clanwilliam Place, Dublin 2, and at its website: www.irtc.ie
