Dublin 3-16 Tyrone 0-9:Gerry McGill's Dublin side claimed their first women's All-Ireland title at Croke Park today with one of the most impressive performances seen at headquarters in many a year.

Spurred on by their heartbreaking defeat to Cork in last year’s decider, The Jackies were outstanding all over the park, with their defence closing down the Red Hand attacks and their forwards picking off scores on the back of some stunning movement and passing.

Player of the match Sinead Aherne was particularly impressive, her tally of 1-7 more than Tyrone could manage in the match. But it far from a one-woman show as, with Amy McGuinness scoring 1-4 and Lyndsey Peat also finding the back of the net.

Dublin got off to a whirwind start and led by six points to three when they got their first goal when a shot by McGuinness was blocked but only into the path of Lynsey Davey. Her shot hit the crossbar but McGuinness was on hand to drive home to the Tyrone net.

Tyrone suffered a hammer blow just before half-time when Peat slotted home following a fine run and Dublin went in with nine point lead (2-8 to 0-5).

Fittingly it was Ahern who claimed the final goal in the second half as Dublin pulled away further to win by 16 points.

Earlier in the day Donegal beat Waterford by 2-12 to 0-16 to win the Intermediate title, while Limerick claimed the Junior crown in a high-scoring encounter with Louth, running out winners by 4-10 to 3-08.
