Afghanistan's first Internet cafes are set to open in Kabul within the next three weeks, the Afghan Wireless Communication Company has promised.
The announcement quickly follows the launch of the first mobile network in April.
It was up-and-running in time for last month's grand council meeting to choose new national leadership.
The company is optimistic the cafes will prove popular, despite a lack of experience among Kabul's two million population.
Managing director Alex Grinling expects many of the first visitors will be among those returning from exile.
Arif Amonullah - a 28-year-old engineer who returned last month after eight years - said: "I never dreamed that Afghanistan would ever have mobile phones, not to speak about internet. I have relatives in England and can't wait to exchange a few emails with them."
