KLM stays cautious as profit tops forecasts

Dutch airline KLM reported a second-quarter operating profit of €141 million today at the higher end of expectations.

Dutch airline KLM reported a second-quarter operating profit of €141 million today at the higher end of expectations.

But the airline remained cautious about its bottom line in the face of difficult trading conditions, warning it was unlikely to achieve a net profit this fiscal year. In the second quarter it posted a net profit of €83 million.

KLM has seen its results improve in recent months with its planes getting fuller as the airline sector recovers from a general economic slowdown and the attacks in the United States a year ago.

The airline is also benefiting from cost savings and lowered capacity.
