Bayer Leverkusen’s star midfielder Michael Ballack was today rated as "very doubtful" for tomorrow night’s Champions League semi-final, second leg clash against Manchester United.

"He suffered a foot injury on Saturday against Nuremburg and is very doubtful for the match," said club manager Klaus Toppmoller.

"We will only know on Tuesday whether or not he can play, but on Sunday he was in a lot of pain."

Meanwhile, Alex Ferguson said today that David Beckham could be fit to play in the Champions League final on May 15th, should United progress.

Beckham broke the second metatarsal bone in his foot at the beginning of the month and was told he would need six to eight weeks to make a full recovery.

"He'll have a scan at the end of the week to take at look at it. . . one thing about David is he wouldn't need a lot of training to get fit," said Ferguson.
