New York - The US Supreme Court has refused to quash a lawsuit against Lord Lloyd-Webber which claims he plagiarised the melody for his hit musical Phantom of the Opera.
The court's decision not to throw out the lawsuit brought by Mr Ray Repp, a relatively unknown Baltimore composer, is the latest round in an eight year old battle of lawsuits and countersuits, the trade magazine Variety reported. Lord Lloyd-Webber's lawyers argued unsuccessfully that the action should be thrown out because Mr Repp failed to prove the British composer had even heard Till You, which was written in 1978, before he wrote Phantom of the Opera in 1984.
