The incident happened shortly before 19.45 when a car travelling northwards collided with a Luas train on O'Connell St.

The car left the road and hit a traffic light on the side of the road after the initial collision.

It is understood the car which was involved in the collision had a foreign registration number.

Traffic was diverted along the quays while gardaí attended the scene.

Despite the serious nature of the incident, no injuries were reported.
